Will is a bartender at McGrath's. In fact, he and I are scheduled to work this upcoming St. Patrick's Day together. It should be a blast! Anyway, he came in yesterday with a bottle of blue Poweraid, and told me he'd invented the "Flu Shot". We'd been talking about a shooter by that name for a few days, and he finally came up with a recipe he liked. Enjoy!

Ingredients

1 oz. Captain Morgan's Rum
3/4 oz. Apple Pucker
A Dash of Triple Sec
A Dash of Lime Juice
A Dash Sour Mix
1 oz. Blue Poweraid

Instructions

Fill a boston shaker with ice
Pour Rum and Apple Pucker
Dash in Triple Sec, Lime Juice and Sour Mix
Add Poweraid until the shot is blue
Shake and strain into a double shot glass.

Absinthe has often been the subject of praise among the great poets and artists of France, but here in America, whiskey is king!

"My own experience has been that the tools I need for my trade are paper, tobacco, food, and a little whisky."
~William Faulkner (American novelist and poet)

Tosse is a regular down at McGrath's. It's the kind of place where the regulars know that they can ask for what they want and the bartender will make their drink just the way they like it. Most of the folks that frequent McGrath's in the afternoon have something they like in particular and Tosse is no exception. But imagine my surprise when another regular ordered a "Tosse" by name! So here it is: the Tosse. Enjoy!

Ingredients

Glassware: Collins Glass
2 oz. Absolut Mandarin Vodka
2-3 oz. Orange Juice
1-2 oz. Pineapple Juice

Instructions

Fill a Collins Glass with ice
Pour Mandarin Vodka
Fill almost to the top with Orange Juice
Top with Pineapple Juice

I've been glancing through a few ancient books of toasts, and one thing I've noticed is how proudly and passionately they toast our nation. In honor of President's Day, and in the spirit of patriotism, I offer the following toast!

May the Sons of America never forget the struggles of their fathers, and the fortitude of their mothers.
~Everybody's Toast Book (1851)
